A reply to: Texas Immigrant Population

I agree with you, the issue of illegal immigration needs to be fixed, but the problem isn’t in the border. Either way with security there will always be ways to get across. With the millions of illegal immigrants that are already here we can at least give a work permit. I don’t know why people keep on saying illegal immigrants don’t pay taxes. With anything you buy you are paying taxes and when they work illegally all the taxes get taken off their pay check, and they don’t get it back at the end of the year like U.S. citizens do. There is no way illegal immigrants get welfare though because welfare is a government based program so obviously they need to check for citizenship. Illegal immigrants also work hard to earn their money and contribute highly to the economy, so why not do something to help them also.

Capital Metro Rail Line

The Capital Metro Go line will begin running sometime around next year in 2008. Many people are for it any many people are against it. Of those people that are for the railroad are the ones that rely on the Capital Metro transportation system on a daily basis. I am for the railroad system and agree with everything for the most part. The railroad line will facilitate on how people get to work, school, and other places. The railroad line will be running from Leander to downtown. Normally it would take an hour or a few hours to get to one place to another but with the train it would be more then less the half of time.
The people that do not agree with the Capital Metro railroad are those who do not want the train running so close to their house. The tracks though have been there for a while without a use, and since they are already there might as well give them a use on something useful. I think it is silly of those people opposing to it just because the train will be running fairly close to their house, as a matter of fact, even though there was a not a train running at the time they still knew train tracks were there and sooner or later there would be a use for them.
I rely a lot on the Capital Metro transportation because it is affordable and convenient, and now it will be more convenient with the rail line opening soon. I can’t wait!

A reply to: and a justice for all...

I completely agree with the author of this article, there should be other forms of justice other than executions. But then again I have to contradict myself because some do need that sort of punishment. Though I don’t think it is the correct way to punish anyone, and I don’t think anyone has the right to take life away. I believe God is the only one to give and take life away.
Texas punishment is tough I have to agree on that but sometimes the punishment given is not given correctly. For example, stealing 2 dollars in Texas could get you a life sentence, while other things that are more of a crime get you less time.
In regards to the appeals process, if Keller had not shut the door at five o’clock and had taken the appeal, than Texas would seem weak. Since the judges are elected they have to be tough and show that they take punishment seriously. The way they receive their punishment though should not be based on their gender or their race. Punishment should be equal and also equal to the crime that was committed.
The appeals via email might help but if the defendant’s life is on the line I don’t see why they should wait until the last minute to turn in the appeal.
Overall I agree with the article and found some very interesting points.

Sending Away Tomorrows Future

The United States needs to do something about the immigration debate. Immigration affects everybody not just one, and need to work together to get to an agreement. Many foreign born come for a better future and education, It is not fair that they are being sent back for wanting to better themselves. Like it or not the immigrants contribute to the United States.
Many foreign born students, especially hispanics continue their education but don’t get to high school. The ones that do get to high school are usually the ones who also attend college.
There are many foreign born graduates of an American university. Most of those graduates choose to stay in this country and want to apply what they have learned contribute to our economy. In order to work in the field of which they have studied for they must obtain a temporary visa. It is not possible though to give visas to every graduate, there is a certain amount they give out each year. Once they have obtained their visa they apply for a green card to become a permanent U.S. resident. Unfortunately, massive backlogs in the green card system leave some professionals waiting up to six years or more. This drives the talented and educated to other countries and giving the United States a loss for the people that were educated here but go and work for the United States competitors.
We are educating tomorrow’s future for the United States and sending them out of the country. It is time to do something, and fix the immigration system.

What Rose is doing...

Best friends or now enemies? Water fight in Caldwell County splits neighbors, political allies. Former Texas Comptroller John Sharp once was a political godfather to state Rep. Patrick Rose, D-Dripping Springs. They really aren’t enemies now but have different views and don’t quite seem to agree on things any more. The problem with them is that Sharp wants to distribute water from Caldwell County to other counties or expand the water districts. Rose doesn’t want to do this because he feels that they are not in the need of distributing their water supply. The others just want to make money off of the situation and Rose as the good man he is, he is watching out for the people of the county. As the author explains in his article, maybe it should be up to the people in the county to decide whether they want to share their water supply or not. Rose doesn’t always know what is best and he should look for a second opinion with the people he serves.
The author, Laylan Copelin, did great in describing everything that is going one with the conflict, but I think he went too much in detail describing other things as well. Overall I think it was a good article rather lengthy, but it gave me a better view about the things Rose has to do and how he manages to take care of the people. Though I do think he needs to let the people decide what they want to do in regards to the water issue and how they want to use it or share it.

Why Hispanics will miss Bush...

Why Hispanics will miss bush? Or will Hispanics miss bush? The author of this article even with a Hispanic name is sort of in a way attacking the Hispanic community. To say the truth bush has not done much for the Hispanic community so I don’t see why they will miss him, in election year and reelection he talked about doing something about immigration and yes he has done something but nothing to help them. Setting a wall dividing the countries is not helping.
What does the author base his percentages that 61 percent of the hispanics voters don’t watch Spanish television? On the contrary I would say that the majority of the Hispanic voters watch Spanish television or else Univison would not have gone through all the trouble to have a debate. Plus they also did it because now there are a lot more hispanics registering to vote and want to know what is going on. And yes it was only with the Democratic Party but I am pretty sure they will have one for the Republican Party as Jorge Ramos said the day of the debate.
I am glad the author realized that immigration is not the only issue hispanics care about. The author mentions war, and yes war is another very important issue immigrants care about. They care because they do not want to be at war any more and many don’t understand that there are more than thousands of illegal immigrants fighting at war in Iraq. But does Bush or the government care for them? I would say not really because here they are fighting for rights that to me seem fair that they have because they care for this country as much as any native U. S. born citizen does.

On the line...

I don’t think anyone wishes death upon no one. When I was reading this article about The Convicted killer executed for triple slaying in San Antonio I felt bad, but the law is law and it had to be followed. I’m not saying he got what he deserved because in my opinion no one deserves to die and only god can give and take life away. This article was interesting and I recommend as a reading. Ask yourself what were the steps or the trials for him. Somewhere along I read that he was refused a trial and just moved on to executing him. I guess because he said he was guilty but even then they should go through many trials. Wouldn't the process be much longer and why wasn’t the other guy also executed if he also participated in the murders?
